My Mission

I’m a former collegiate athlete who’s learning to live without the titles “student-athlete” and “soccer player” for the first time in my life. I’ve struggled with that loss and decided to put that energy into something else that’s bigger than me. More specifically, I’m trying to create a place that former/current/future athletes can visit to get a super honest account of my journey, in hopes that maybe you experienced something similar. Through my vulnerability, I hope to create conversation where there wasn’t before and maybe help people not feel so alone.

What is “athlete state of mind”?

Being an athlete changes us. It changes our mindset, changes the way we experience things, and changes how we approach life. Our athletic careers might come to a halt, but our brains keep moving forward. I might not have game days anymore or be forced to juggle classes, practice, treatment, and everything else, but I still function best when I’m under pressure. Ask anybody, free time is a death sentence to an athlete, especially when it goes from rare to common.

Getting into that athlete state of mind means that I’m fully in the moment, firing on all cylinders, and grinding to achieve my goals. As much as I complain about being busy, I crave it; I want to be challenged. And I’ve met others like me and I know that when we lose the organization and identity athletics gives us, our minds can feel lost.

athlete state of mind is a place for blunt honesty about the highs and lows of what being an athlete meant and what it means now. Join me as I present an unadulterated version of transitioning into adult life, exploring goals for the future and reminiscing on those good old glory days.

I’ll be featuring stories of others that I feel will be impactful through interviews, guest writers, or podcasts. If you ever want to share your story or have an idea to make what I’m doing better, reach out on Instagram or send me an email through the form below. athlete state of mind should represent us all and for that to happen, feedback is necessary.

As someone who’s constantly trying to better myself, my mission for this blog keeps evolving the longer I do it, so I’m sure this page will keep updating. Let’s grow together.
